A local firm has won a contract to refurbish a leisure centre.

Maelor Construction will carry out works to improve Gwyn Evans Leisure and Activity Centre in Gwersyllt, Wrexham.

The centre is undergoing a £750,000 refurbishment and will close for nine months while the work is carried out.

The project is supported by the Sports Council for Wales.

Work started on the centre in January and the planned improvements include a new first floor facility encompassing a brand new Technogym Gyn fitness suite with disabled access, as well as extra storage and office space.

The swimming pool hall is also being extended to provide an improved spectator area.

The foyer, reception and eating area are also being extended and refurbished, providing a new entrance and exit to the centre.
